Title: Building Tran-Himalayan Cultural, Economic and Security Community: Opportunities and Challenges
Abstract:
As China unfolds a new economic and foreign policy with its neighbors by promoting the One Belt and One Road Initiative, the revival of the “southern silk route”, one of the earliest routes of communication between India and China, is perhaps less talked about comparing with “northern silk route” and the “maritime silk route”. This paper argues in favor of trans-Himalayan cooperation between India and China, including the OBOR and BCIM-EC in the context of China’s aggressive cultural and economic engagement in the region, and the opportunities and challenges it faces. The paper suggests specific areas of cooperation in culture, economy, and security, etc. and holds that the cooperation will facilitate deeper integration among countries concerned, and will open vistas of opportunities in diversified areas across the trans-Himalayan region.
