Title: The Media's Mission Under the Background of Building the Belt and Road
Abstract
The goal of the Belt and Road Initiative is to build a community of shared interests, future and responsibility with political mutual trust, economic integration and cultural inclusiveness. The initiative is also an expression of China’s outlook on the world, cooperation and development. It is of great significance to establish global order and realize the Chinese Dream—the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. During his inspection tour to Shaanxi Province, President Xi Jinping stressed that Shaanxi should find its position to actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Shaanxi Daily, as a Party newspaper at the provincial level and one of the news media along the Silk Road, plays an important role in promoting Shaanxi’s participation in the Belt and Road Initiative.
We believe that countries and regions along the route have different civilizations, customs, resources and social development. In order to strengthen friendly exchanges between different peoples and increase mutual understanding, friendship and mutual
trust, news media, as a window for different countries and regions to know each other and a bridge for communication and exchanges, should focus on the core mission of promoting information dissemination and engagement, and respect and care the historical traditions and core interests of the countries and regions along the route. News media should follow the principles of candidness, goodwill, objectivity and reason, and set reporting agendas based on circumstances, readers’ needs as well as changes of their reading habits in order to do a better job in reporting, policy interpretation, cultural communication and people-to-people exchanges. By “going out” and “bringing in”, news media should lay solid social foundations for the Belt and Road Initiative to promote exchanges and cooperation in politics, economy and culture among countries and regions along the route, which will lead to mutual benefits and a win-win outcome.
