Title: Recording History of, Spreading Information About, and Building Consensus on the Belt and Road Initiative

Abstract

1. Responsibilities of the Media With the Belt and Road Initiative as a Historic Opportunity

It is incumbent on Xinhuanet to help countries along the Belt and Road understand the framework and achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative, take the initiative to interpret it, and respond with authority to concerns from home and abroad.

(1) Recording History of the Belt and Road Initiative and Telling Good Stories

To record the historic opportunity of the Belt and Road Initiative, the media should fully explore stories happening in countries and regions along the routes, well interpret the top-level design of the initiative, and report the achievements of building the Belt and Road.

(2) Spreading Information About the Belt and Road Initiative and Helping Chinese Enterprises Go Global

Adopting a pragmatic attitude, the media should take advantage of its own channels in specific fields to change the status quo that information is obstructed and asymmetric. The media should promote synergy of development strategies among the countries along the Belt and Road by providing efficient, convenient and practical information services and building cooperation platforms in various fields among them.

(3) Building Consensus on the Belt and Road Initiative and Promoting Cultural Exchange

The media should make full use of its advantages to build consensus on the Belt and Road Initiative among the countries concerned. By enhancing mutual trust and clearing up doubts among them, the media needs to identify a conjunction of interests and the "biggest common denominator" for cooperation. Moreover, the media should strive to make the people along the Belt and Road gain a sense of identity from their heart and be willing to share culture with each other for greater mutual understanding among them.

2. Practices of Xinhuanet to Promote Publicity of the Belt and Road Initiative

(1) Opening the "Belt and Road" Channels in Multiple Languages to Cover Most Countries Concerned

We hope to take the "Belt and Road" Channels as a key element of our effort to set up an authoritative platform for publishing important information about the Belt and Road, taking deep interpretations of major policies, making a comprehensive summary of practical information, providing convenient business services for enterprises involved, and giving a full display of people-to-people exchanges and tours among the people along the Belt and Road.

(2) Initiating a Series of High-End Interviews on the Belt and Road

During this year's annual NPC and CPPCC sessions, focusing on the hot topic of the Belt and Road, Xinhuanet invited 20 ambassadors to China to present their views of the initiative.

(3) Taking the Opportunity of Chinese Leaders' Overseas Visits to Showcase Achievements of Building the Belt and Road

Taking the opportunity of Chinese leaders' overseas visits, Xinhuanet released a series of special reports to showcase fruitful results achieved in cooperation between China and countries along the Belt and Road and synergize bilateral development strategies.

(4) Holding Seminars to Build a Think-Tank Communication Platform for the Belt and Road

For three consecutive years, the Belt and Road Initiative has been a key topic on an annual international seminar hosted by Xinhuanet. Experts and scholars all have expressed their insightful views on the seminar.
