Title: Media Cooperation and Development Important for Success of Belt and Road Vision

Abstract

1. Media cooperation to spread information and increase public awareness of the Belt and Road

Efforts at media cooperation can help inform the public—especially the grassroots citizenry and communities—on the changes coming to their societies and how these changes can benefit them. Media cooperation can also offset and answer skepticism and suspicion among some critics of the Belt and Road Initiative, stressing its mutual benefits and transparency.

2. Media development to encourage cultural exchanges among countries along the Belt and Road

The Silk Roads by land and by sea traverse the most diverse cultures of the world, and media development in these societies can promote more cultural exchanges among different countries and peoples. Economic exchanges and diplomacy can be accelerated smoothly if we promote exchanges and mutual understanding of the many unique traditions, customs, languages, cultures, and even religions.

3. Media cooperation to promote better political consensus for the Belt and Road Initiative

Media cooperation among countries along the Belt and Road can further promote political consensus to support and accelerate the development projects. The Belt and Road vision is mainly economic in nature, and therefore, should be immune from political situations of various countries along the route, but I believe media cooperation is important to continuously strengthen political consensus and mutual trust behind this grand project.

4. Media development in non-Western nations can promote alternative views of the world

In the past, traditional Western media have dominated news information flows worldwide, with such companies as CNN or BBC. However, as we evolve into a more diverse and multi-polar world, developing nations in Central Asia, Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa and other regions need to have our news perspectives and voices be heard also. Countries along the Belt and Road should cooperate to build up our own media organizations with our unique perspectives, values and authentic voices to support our respective development goals.

5. Media cooperation to strengthen local media enterprises of the Belt and Road countries

With the economic and infrastructures developments of countries along the Belt and Road, media cooperation between these countries and China can come in the form of possible technical exchanges and cooperation, media joint venture projects or enterprises, workshops, regular exchange visits, training, etc.

6. Media development and cooperation can promote stronger trade flows and connectivities among countries along the Belt and Road

Stronger media cooperation and development among countries along the Belt and Road can be a strong catalyst for faster, bigger and increased flows of trade, investments and other exchanges within these vast regions on land and on the sea. Media can play a decisive role in encouraging and promoting the tapping of new investment opportunities, new trade possibilities and the opening of more economic horizons.
