Title: StarTimes on Its Way to a Globally Influential Media Group by Fulfilling National and International Communication Strategies

Abstract:

The Star Times Group has helped to promote digitalization in African countries by organizing the African Forum on the Development of Digital TV and investing in and promoting use of the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model in Africa. So far the company has completed programming of the three basic network platforms—the broadcast relay platform, the direct broadcast satellite platform, and the terrestrial digital TV transmission (DTT) platform—which cover the entire African population. The Star Times Group offers subscribers a broad range of choices with more than 440 channels, including those from famous international, Chinese and local African channels, as well as 38 channels of its own. The company owns legitimate intellectual property rights over all the programs it airs and produces through integrating, translating and producing programs. This internationalized strategy has laid a solid foundation for its future development. The Star Times has indeed become a well-known brand in Africa's radio and television industry. As an important contributor to promoting digitalization in Africa, the Star Times aims to build itself into an internationally influential media group with a market value of $10 billion and subscribers exceeding 10 million.

The group plans to explore the Asian market by drawing on its experience gained in the African market, and to make breakthroughs in the coming two years, and promote the Belt and Road Initiative by promoting radio and television industry integration.
