Beijing will ban national Ⅰ and national Ⅱ vehicles inside the Fifth Ring Rd during working days starting on Feb. 15. Those who violate the rule will be fined 100 yuan every 4 hours.

Currently, vehicles of national Ⅰ and national Ⅱ standards are the highest polluting vehicles.

Beijing has 5.7 million vehicles that create about 500,000 tons of pollutant emissions annually, accounting for 31.1 percent of the city’s total PM2.5.

It is estimated that when the vehicle control is enforced, nitrogen oxide emissions from light gasoline-powered cars will be cut by 15 percent and volatile organic compounds by 12 percent.

Since the traffic control policy was released on Nov. 21, 2016, Beijing has subsidized owners of 26,447 light gasoline-powered cars of national Ⅰ and national Ⅱ standards.

Owners who get rid of their outdated vehicles by June 30, 2017 will receive an additional subsidy of 2,000 yuan. The second phase of the subsidy will last from July 1 to Dec. 31 of this year.

You can find information about the vehicle emission standard on the official website of Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau (http://www.bjepb.gov.cn/), or call 12369 directly.

If you need more information about getting rid of outdated cars, please call the service line at 010-63211588 during 8:30-16:30 on working days, or send emails to 20110801@cbeex.com.cn.
