On April 12, China’s national top ten archaeological discoveries in 2016 were announced and Luxian ancient county relics from Han Dynasty (206 BC- 220 AD) in Tongzhou sub-district is on the list.
The identification of the location of the county relics -- dating back to more than 2000 years ago -- is of great historical and archaeological value to explore the grass-root communities of the northern area of the Han Dynasty, said Liu Qingzhu, the former director of the Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The study of the main social framework, management mechanism and organizational form of the county will fill in the gaps of county-level relics in Han Dynasty, he added.
According to Sun Meng, the project leader of the excavation of the relics, the archaeological excavation of the site will continue this year, and once a relics park is built, the site will also be open for exhibition.
