To hold an event that can connect children from countries along the Belt and Road is a meaningful thing, said Lao Ambassador to China, Vandy Bouthasavong, in Beijing on Wednesday - a day before the international Children's Day.

Ambassador Vandy Bouthasavong made the remark on the sideline of a grand Children's Day celebration drawing some 700 Chinese and foreign young people from the Belt and Road countries.

She told China.org.cn that "children are the future of a nation, and the future of the world. It holds significant meaning to celebrate International Children's Day in such a grand event."

The half-day event, themed "Dream of the Future Belt and Road Young Hearts," was organized by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and mainly featured children's singing, dancing, painting exhibition, robot performances as well as the experiencing of traditional Chinese culture.

It aims to promote communication between young people from countries along the Belt and Road, a major consensus reached at the latest Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, said the organizer.
