Beijing has seen a total of 1,542 coal-fired boilers (4235t/h) switch to the use of clean energy by the end of June, meeting this year’s target of 4000t/h ahead of time, according to the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau on July 9.

An official of the bureau said that Beijing is not only upgrading coal-fired boilers with the heating capacity of 10t/h or less as required by the city’s Clean Air Action Plan, but has also planned to renovate boilers with the heating capacity of more than 10t/h. The renovation of a total of 9,699 t/h of boilers is under way.

Besides, Beijing will also need to transform 10000t/h of coal-fired boilers with low nitrogen oxide emissions this year. At present, a total of 10,400 t/h of boilers are under transformation.

According to this year’s Clean Air Action Plan, Beijing’s Chaoyang District, Haidian District, Shijingshan District, and the plain areas of Fengtai District, Daxing District, Tongzhou District and Fangshan District will cancel the use of coal, and 700 villages will change their use of coal to clean energy.
