Beijing will build 50 pilot zones for ecological forest conservation and management in three years, according to the Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau.

With the completion of the afforestation project in the plain areas of Beijing, forestry protection has featured prominently in Beijing’s ecological forest management.

To meet various needs of the public for ecological forest in plain areas, Beijing will divide the pilot zones into five types in line with different local realities, namely, suburban forest park, wetland forest, ecological forest in degraded land, close-to-nature forest and greenway landscape. On this basis, the city will take targeted conservation measures.

The first group of the five pilot zones at municipal level this year will cover the above five different types. The five zones will complete conventional conservation and further adopt special measures.

The Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau will reportedly introduce a number of advanced technologies into the pilot zones, such as multi-functional close-to-nature management, forest health management, rainwater collection and water conservation, waste disposal and recycling, and soil fertility improvement.
