From January 8 to February 21, 1992, Deng Xiaoping made his famous south China tour, inspecting Wuchang, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Shanghai, in that order. During his trip, the former Chinese leader made important speeches that later developed to become the backbone of Deng Xiaoping Theory. The main contents: revolution and reformation are both means to liberate productive forces; it is necessary to hold on to the "one central task, two basic points" principle; planning and market forces are not essential difference between socialism and capitalism, among others. These speeches of his offered answers to a series of important theoretical and conceptual questions, thus playing a crucial role in guiding and accelerating China's reform and opening-up as well as the socialist modernization process.
