IV-3 Question: There is a saying that when China adheres to its path of peaceful development, its development model is appealing to many developing countries. How does China view this comment? Does China intend to "export" its own development model?
A: Since starting a policy of reform and opening up in 1978, China has found the development model that is suitable for its own national condition. After development of almost 30 years, China's gross domestic product has grown from US$216.5 billion in 1978 to US$2.6269 trillion (US$1 equals 7.97 yuan) in 2006, total foreign trade volume rocketing from US$20.6 billion to US$1.7607 trillion; rural population in poverty shrinking from 250 million to 21.5 million. The Chinese people's lives have reached a prosperous benchmark. Because of the rapid development of the Chinese economy, increasingly lifting people's living standards and growing national strength, China's development model is appealing to the vast number of developing countries.
However, China's development model is not a one-size-fits-all solution for other countries with different historical and cultural backgrounds and economic development levels. Facts prove that development path and model are of vital importance to any country. Only when the development path and model match with its national condition, the country can achieve smooth development. China has and will not impose its ideologies, values or development model upon other countries.
