Living Buddha condemns monks' involvement in riots

The Standing Director of the Tibet Buddhist Association has condemned those monks involved in the recent Lhasa riots. He also criticized the Dalai clique's attempts to separate Tibet from China.

He said the behaviors of those monks involved in the March 14th riots are fundamentally against Buddhist principles.

Gelukpa Salongpingla said, "Some monks wearing robes took part in the riots on March 10th and 14th. They were beating, smashing, looting, and burning. I'm so sad to hear about those incidents."

The living Buddha said those involved in the riots should be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Gelukpa Salongpingla said, "Monks are not supposed to be involved in riots. Those taking part in them cannot call themselves Buddhists. Their behaviors seriously violated Tibetan Buddhist doctrines. We should stay away from separatists."

The Living Buddha said it has been a long tradition of Tibetan Buddhism that its followers should love their motherland and their religion. He said under the leadership of the central government, all separatist attempts are doomed to fail.
