The details of a plan to subsidize private purchases of electronic motor cars will be released after the "two conferences," Miao Wei, vice-minister of Industry and Information Technology and deputy to the National People's Congress disclosed on Saturday, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

In the near future, Beijing residents will have the chance to purchase electronic cars for private use and receive subsidies of up to 50,000 to 60,000 yuan (US$7,324.29 to 8,789.15), provided by central and local governments, the report said.

The subsidy plan is likely to be released within this month and five cities will be chosen as pilot cities for the trial program, Miao said.

According to the report, the aim of the subsidy plan is to build an energy-efficient and low-emissions society.
