He Dingyi, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and president of the Women's General Association of Macao, told China.org.cn on March 11 that Hengqin's development provided opportunities for Macao.

He said, "Currently, Hengqin and Macao enjoy gratifying exchanges. In order to fight for a brighter future for the both sides, we have to strengthen mutual communication and encourage more Macao enterprises to join in Hengqin's market."

She said that although it only covers less than 30 square kilometers and has a small population, Macao contains a range of advantages.

Since Macao returned to the mainland in 1999, the central government has rolled out a series of preferential policies to boost Macao's economic and social development.

"Macao has witnessed great changes during the past two decades: the economy has developed well; people's livelihood has improved; all the people live happy lives."

In her proposal to the CPPCC, He suggested that a new model of Guangzhou-Macao cooperation should be carried out to promote convenient communication for the flow of labor force, goods, capital and information. She also said world-class tourism and leisure destination should be constructed combinging Macao's tourist resources with Zhuhai and Hengqin's advantages.
