The 16-year-old Li Zhuhao broke the world junior record in the men's 200 meters butterfly at the Chinese National Swimming Championships here on Tuesday.
Li, who shared the same coach - Xu Guoyi - with Olympic champion Ye Shiwen, snatched the gold medal in a new world junior record of one minute 55.52 seconds, beating the previous mark of 1:55.92 set by Andrew Seliskar of the United States last year in Maui.
"This is my second big event in two months after the Kazan worlds. I took this meet as a rehearsal for the World Cup series in Beijing later this month and for the inaugural National Youth Games next month in Fujian province," Li said.
Shen Duo claimed victory in the women's 200m freestyle in 1:57.72, followed by Chen Shiyun of Jiangxi in 1:58.85 and Wang Shijia of Liaoning 1:59.53.
Zhang Yufei of Jiangsu, bronze medalist in women's 200m butterfly in Kazan worlds, won the women's 100m butterfly in 58.49 while Shi Jinglin, third place finisher in the 200m breaststroke in Kazan, enjoyed a narrow victory in the women's 100m breaststroke in 1:07.95, beating Zhang Xinyu of Henan by 0.05.
In the men's 50m backstroke, Xu Jiayu from Zhejiang touched in 25.35 to lift the title, while Yang Zhixian clocked 4:15.93 to win the men's 400m individual medley.
Beijing team dominated the men's 4X100m freestyle relay in 3:19.09, beating Guangdong and Zhejiang into second and third place. Endi
