The Communist Party of China (CPC) leadership is "the most fundamental guarantee" for comprehensively advancing rule of law, said a People's Daily editorial to be published on Friday.
The Fourth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee held this week had addressed a series of issues concerning the relationship between the CPC leadership and its governance according to law, said the editorial.
In a communique issued after the four-day meeting, the Party said "the drive to promote the rule of law needs the CPC's leadership while the CPC's rule depends on the rule of law.
Adhering to the leadership of the CPC is a fundamental requirement for the rule of law drive, which is also fundamentally different from constitutionalism in the West, said the flagship newspaper of the CPC.
The CPC has detailed a series of measures to reform the country's legal system, including strengthening the role of the National People's Congress in supervising the Constitution's implementation and setting up a mechanism to record officials' interference in judicial cases.
"It is a sweeping and profound revolution to comprehensively advance rule of law in China, the world's largest developing country with a population of more than 1.3 billion," said the editorial.
