Bus Accident Kills Eight, Injures 35 in Guangxi

Eight people died and 35 were injured in a bus accident on Monday in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to the region's department of public security.

The accident occurred at 12:40 PM on Monday when a bus and a minibus collided on National Highway 209.

Six people aboard the bus, which was traveling from Liuzhou to Wuxuan, died at the scene and two others -- one a child -- died later in hospital.

More than 400 people joined the emergency rescue operation, including 150 medical workers. All the injured were hospitalized by 2:00 PM Monday.

By Tuesday morning, 29 people were still being treated and six of them were under intensive care, hospital sources told Xinhua.

The county government has arranged accommodation for family members who began pouring in on Monday afternoon.

The traffic police authority is investigating the cause of the accident.
