A young man sandwiched between the platform safety door and the
door of a subway car in Shanghai fell onto the tracks and was
killed Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred at 3:34 PM when the man was trying to
board the crowded train running on the busy south-north Line One,
according to the Shanghai Metro Operation Co.
The alarm was ringing and the train was ready to move, when the
young man tried to force his way into the carriage. But he could
neither get in to the crowded carriage nor retreat to the platform
because the safety door had closed behind him, witnesses said.
Metro workers at Shanghai Stadium Station, where the accident
occurred, called the first aid center, but the man died on his way
to hospital.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
