Police in the southwestern province of Yunnan broke up a planned drug trafficking scheme that involved 12 suspects and 42 kilograms of drugs, the Public Security Bureau of Pu'er city said on Wednesday.

The anti-drug division of the Menglian county public security bureau was informed on Feb. 13 that two mini-vans en route from the Menglian to the Lancang Lagu ethnic autonomous counties might carry drugs.

The police apprehended a suspect surnamed Yu and three accomplices and seized 16 kg of methamphetamine (known as ice) and heroin. Subsequently, police intercepted 26.23 kg of ice and detained eight suspects.

Sources in the provincial Public Security Bureau also said on Wednesday that police in different cities had worked together to break up an armed drug trafficking case, which involved 105 kg of opium, a pistol, six bullets and three grenades.
