Special police end mission in quake-hit Sichuan

All the special police who helped maintain order in earthquake-devastated Sichuan have left the province, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

During their stay in the province, they had uncovered 646 criminal cases, arrested 2,272 suspects, captured 23 guns, 434 bullets, 2,066 grams of drugs, 2,234 kilograms of explosives, 24 stolen vehicles, and 2.07 million yuan illicit money and worth of goods.

Moreover, these police officers made donations worth over 3.5 million yuan to local quake victims.

Between May 12, the day the 8.0-magnitude earthquake hit the province, and May 27, 3,550 special police from 20 cities outside Sichuan were sent to help rescue lives in the province.

Beginning May 27, another 5,221 special police from 28 big cities outside Sichuan had arrived to replace the 3,550 police officers. (1 U.S. dollars is approximately 6.82 yuan).
