Local authorities said 60 migrant workers demanding compensation for a teenage boy who was seriously injured after jumping from a factory in Ningbo, east China's Zhejiang Province, clashed with 20 factory workers on Thursday.
Yang Xunzhao, 14, from neighboring Jiangxi Province and a student in Juexi Town, Xiangshan County, argued with his parents on Tuesday and left home.
He was found by staff of the Juexi Jinxu Garment Making Company in an elevator room on the fourth floor on Wednesday morning and suspected of theft, a county government official said on Friday.
The workers called the police. When Yang saw them arrive, he jumped from the fourth floor. Yang sustained leg fractures and was treated in a hospital.
Yang's parents, also migrant workers in the town, led relatives and others from his village to the company on Thursday morning, demanding compensation for the medical costs. They scuffled with 20 migrant workers of the company from the eastern Anhui Province but nobody was injured.
More than 1,000 onlookers gathered at the factory in the afternoon and the 20 workers, who were occasionally the target of hurled objects, were taken away by the police for their own safety. Eight attackers were also taken away by the police.
The crowd dispersed Thursday evening.
