5.5-magnitude quake hits Xinjiang

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale rocked a far northwestern county Sunday noon in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, according to China's seismological network.

The epicenter was at 41.3 degrees north latitude and 78.3 degrees east longitude in Akqi County in Kizilsu Kirgiz Prefecture.

No casualties have been reported, local authorities said.
