A policeman in Shanghai was critically injured after being stabbed during a dispute mediation Tuesday, a police source said.

The policeman was stabbed in the back by a man, surnamed Chen, at about 9 a.m. in the Yangpu district and was in critical condition, having suffered lung damage.

The dispute happened after Chen, 46 and divorced, poured water over his floor and the water infiltrated downstairs.

He also stabbed a neighborhood committee official in the arms.

Chen later set fire on his home, which was put out by firefighters, before he was detained by special police.

Further details of the case are not immediately available.

The case is under police investigation.
