Chinese top political advisor Jia Qinglin said the multi-party cooperation system in China should be further consolidated and perfected, to back the building of a socialist society with Chinese characteristics.
Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the comment in an instruction to a seminar held Monday to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China as well as of the establishment of China's multi-party cooperation system.
The seminar was held in the name of the United Front, a term used by the Communist Party of China (CPC) to describe its policy of uniting the political forces representing people of various circles.
Jia said in the instruction that the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC is a key political mechanism.
The system has made tremendous contributions to China's economic development, social stability and national unity in the past six decades, he said.
Efforts must be made to consolidate and promote the harmonious relations between political parties in China, to push forward the multi-party cooperation system in order to back the building of a socialist society with Chinese characteristics, Jia said.
