Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi meets with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings.
Wang Yi told reporters after the meeting that China and the world will be watching how Japan approaches the 70th anniversary of and World War Two.
"This year marks the 70th anniversary of China's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. This historical matter cannot be avoided. Not just China, but the whole world is watching how Japan will approach this issue. China has stated its solemn position on the issue. We also talked about the direction Japan will take in the future. Japan's military and defense policies could be changing. That naturally arouses concerns for many countries, especially Japan's neighbours. We hope Japan can continue on the path of peaceful development," he said.
The foreign minister said discussions did not touch on whether Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo will visit China for events marking the 70th anniversary.
