President Xi Jinping has also called on the people of the mainland and Taiwan to remember history, unite to safeguard peace, and promote cross-strait relations and national rejuvenation.

Xi meets with former KMT chairman

Xi said this while meeting with Lien Chan, the former Chairman of Taiwan's ruling party, the Kuomintang. A Taiwan delegation is in Beijing to attend events to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and China's victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
