A huge moon cake weighing around 300 kilograms is currently on
display at the Tai Po Mega Mall in Hong Kong to celebrate the
upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival on September 25.
This giant moon cake is 80 inches long in diameter. Hong
Kong-based Ming Pao newspaper says it was made by the Tai
Ton Cake Shop, an old bakery brand in Hong Kong. As revealed by one
of the bakers surnamed Xie, they actually failed twice before
finally striking on the right mould.
Baker Xie said that this moon cake is made of 300 preserved
yolks and 20 kgs of white lotus seed paste. They baked it in a
tunnel-shaped oven under high temperature for half an hour. It
takes 10 people to lift this 300 kilogram moon cake, equivalent to
the total weight of 1500 ordinary ones.
This giant moon cake will be on show from September 6 to 26.
