Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, launched a project to add a protective web across each of its sewer manholes to help prevent citizens from falling in, Xinhua News Agency reports.

Workers begin to attach a thick web beneath the cover of thousands of sewer manholes scattered throughout downtown Hangzhou. The manhole webs can support the weight of a man.

The project, which eliminates potential "death traps" in downtown Hangzhou, is expected to be finished by the end of this year.
