Longkou, a city in eastern China's Shandong province, plans to invest more than 20 billion yuan to build seven man-made islands.
Near the Jiaodong Peninsular and the Longkou Bay, the seven islands cover more than 35.2 square kilometers. The construction started in January this year and is scheduled to be completed in 2015.
Once completed, the islands will further promote the development of Longkou. The seven artificial islands will be built into six districts: a high-end industrial district, a recreation district, the headquarters, a green district, a new low-carbon economy district and innovative urban areas.
