Shandong's Shengli Oilfield, China's second largest oil field, is aiming to increase its crude oil output to 27.5 million tonnes in 2012, 160,000 tonnes more than the 2011 target.
The oilfield's 2011 plan is 27.34 million tonnes of oil production, which has been fulfilled so far. Its output is only behind PetroChina's Daqing Oilfield.
Held by China's state-owned petroleum giant Sinopec, the Shengli Oil field is located in the Yellow River delta bordering Bohai Sea and was discovered in 1961.
Its main working area covers 28 counties under the jurisdiction of eight Shandong's prefecture level cities.
Nowadays, its exploration has expanded to offshore oil fields and basins in northwest Gansu Province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, such as its 78th oil field discovered in Xinjiang this November with reserves of over 50 million tonnes.
