During a press conference on April 23, ,the 2012 Shandong Invention Patent List was released by the Shandong Intellectual Property Office (IPO). Jinan tops the list with 5,779 effective invention patents, followed by Qingdao with 4,603 effective invention patents.

At the press conference, Wu Fenglei, vice director of Shandong IPO, first of all introduced the overall situation of the 2012 Shandong invention patent applications and grants. As he introduced, the number of invention patent applications has reached 40,381, ranking fourth in China and increasing by 57.6% year-on-year, 28.9 percentage points above national average. The number of invention patent grants has reached 7,453, ranking sixth in China and increasing by 27.3% year-on-year. The number of PCT applications (international patent application) across the province has reached 531, a record high, ranking sixth in China and increasing 28.9% year-on-year.

By the end of 2012, the ownership of effective invention patents reached 21,943, ranking sixth and increasing 39.9% year-on-year.

The 2012 enterprise, schools and research institutes invention patent ownership list was also release on the occasion.
