Jinan will boost its forestation and urban greening through a five-year project in ecological city construction.

Jinan's new forestland will exceed 33,000 hectares, with the forest coverage rate reaching 35 percent. In five years, every Jinan citizen will be able to enjoy more than 11 square meters of green area in the parks on average.

A city famous for its springs, Jinan will attach great importance to the conservation of water sources by planting trees nearby freeways and hills.

The Forestry Offices will advance the construction of ecological barriers. A three-dimensional greening system will roll out, mainly composed of tall trees. The greening level across the counties will also be improved, including street landscape greening, park greening perfection and boulevard construction.

Green ribbons on either bank of the main rivers in Jinan will show up to secure the water environment. Jinan will create and perfect 319 kilometers of water landscape greening by 2015.

The city's wetland protection will reach more than 65 percent in five years. Forest pest infestation rate will be kept controlled under 0.2 percent, and the forest fire victimization rate will be controlled within 0.1 percent.
