Weihai airport in Weihai City, Shandong Province, will open a direct flight route to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei, Taiwan Province. China Airlines in Taiwan will run the trial flight.

The city will become the fourth one in the province to provide direct air service to Taiwan, which is expected to start by the end of this December.

Since Weihai was approved to be the Straits Exchange Base in 2011, economic, trade and cultural exchange and cooperation between the city and Taiwan became routine.

Over 20,000 tourists from Taiwan visited the city this year, up by 3.2 percent over the same period of last year. The number of people from Weihai touring Taiwan topped 1,350.
