The Red Cross Society of China and charity organizations have been receiving enormous donations in cash and materials from all over the country.

The Red Cross Society of China and charity organizations have been receiving enormous donations in cash and materials from all over the country.

The donation hotline at this crowded office at the Red Cross Society is ringing non-stop.

The staff have been working round-the-clock to count and record the cash and material donations from people from all walks of life, as well as companies and organizations.

Staff of Red Cross Society of China said "Many people made donations without leaving their names. What touched me the most was that the donors include many little children, students, senior citizens and even disabled people."

This man who lives nearby rushed to the Red Cross office without changing from his pajamas.

One donor said "My family and I feel such pain that many students are suffering from the deadly disaster, and the fate of those buried and injured is still undetermined. We want to do our best to help them."

A number of staff are specially assigned to sort out large-sum donations.

Staff of Red Cross Society of China said "Since 10 A-M Wednesday, we've collected 28 lots of donations valuing 100,000 and above. The total amount is over 19 million yuan."

Staff at the Red Cross say they are deeply moved and encouraged by people's care and enthusiasm.

Peng Peiyun, President of Red Cross Society of China said "People nationwide are actively making donations to the people in the quake-hit region. They are from all walks of life, and this shows that every Chinese is always ready to offer a helping hand to each other in need. We will do our best to help the people in Sichuan to recover from the disaster."

The situation is similar at the China Charity Federation. Donations in the form of cash, and materials like food, water and shelter are filling up their storage. Donors include children, like these quintuplets.

Fan Baojun, President of China Charity Federation said "In the past two days, the federation has received over a-hundred-million yuan in cash donations. Apart from people on the mainland, many organizations and individuals from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have also been donating money and materials. Chartered flights will be organized to transport those relief goods to quake-stricken areas as soon as possible."

With concerted efforts from people all over the country, there's always hope to save more lives and recover from the calamity.
