One survivor was found under the rubble of a local glass factory. Firefighters worked with their bare hands, and the help of the crane. After more than eight hour of work, the elderly man was finally rescued from the debris.
Wang Xingde, vice director of Police Station in Qingchuan County, said, "The moment we arrived here we threw ourselves into the battle to find and save survivors."
Qingchuan County is about 140 kilometers from the quake's epicenter in Wenchuan County. By 4 PM on Friday, the county had suffered more than 750 aftershocks.
Meng Jianzhu, Minister of Public Security, said, "We won't spare any effort to save more lives from the disaster. We work for the people. They are always our first priority."
The Ministry of Public Security has dispatched over 18-thousand police to the quake-hit area in Sichuan. Policemen and firefighters have pulled nearly 7-thousand people from the debris, and evacuated over 40-thousand others.
