Several thousand aftershocks have jolted Wenchuan creating more difficulties for rescuers trying to deliver emergency supplies to survivors trapped in remote mountainous areas.

These armed policemen are heading to the villages of Caopo, Yinxing and Gengbian, some 100 kilometers from Wenchuan county.

Each of them is carrying 25 kilograms of food and medicine. And they have to take care with every step they take on the mountainous road.

Wu Chunhui, Captain of Armed Police Rescue Team said "Do you know about the obstacles you will encounter on the way? Landslides, mudslides and falling stones. So remember, the most important thing for you is to go through the dangerous sections as quickly as possible once you make sure it's safe."

The quake blocked roads and cut phone lines to remote villages in Wenchuan county, leaving residents completely cut off from the outside world.

A team consisting of almost 500 armed policemen was the first to reach those areas. They brought 10,000 kilograms of grain and 10 boxes of medicine. They say survivors there are still in dire need of more food, medicine and tents.

Members of a PLA rescue team which just returned from those villages spoke about the difficulties of reaching the remote areas.

Feng Xudong, PLA Surveillance Team Leader said "We arrived there yesterday. There were several aftershocks during our journey there. And aftershocks can lead to landslides. Several times we had to hide behind big rocks to avoid falling stones."

The team says there are over 10,000 survivors still trapped in the remote areas of Wenchuan county. The PLA soldiers and armed police are sparing no efforts to deliver emergency assistance to them.
