The quake has displaced 14 million people. To solve the immediate urgency of finding temporary homes for people to live about one million temporary houses will be constructed. The first 250,000 houses are scheduled to be completed in a month, before June 25th.
The second group of 370,000 houses will be finished before July 20th. And the last group of 380,000 houses is planned to be completed before August 10th.
Each temporary house will be cover between 15 and 20 square meters. Product quality will be strictly supervised to ensure their durability over a three-year period of use. The houses must meet various needs, including ventilation, lighting and sanitation conditions. They also must be able to withstand the potential dangers from earthquakes, fires and flooding.
Public facilities, including those for water supply, lavatories and garbage collection, will also be put in place to help to make the everyday life of the people more convenient. Schools, shops and clinics are also part for the plan. So far, more than 8,500 temporary houses have been transported to Sichuan.
