Two weeks after the earthquake, people are trying hard to recover from the devastation and return to a normal life. Farmers in the southwest region of Sichuan are wasting no time in harvesting wheat. They store their hard work in newly made mobile barns.
Farmers in the southwest region of Sichuan are wasting no time in harvesting wheat. They store their hard work in newly made mobile barns.
Their houses were severely damaged during the quake, and now these farmers have no place to store the wheat they had tried so hard to harvest. Sichuan Provincial Poverty Relief Fund got companies to manufacture this much needed mobile barn.
Similar to the tent, the barn is easy to assemble and disassemble. The mobile barn is specially designed to prevent the wheat from getting wet, which would cause mildew.
Zhu Lingying from a donation company said, "We used planks of wood and nails to build a strong bottom, and the waterproof cloth on the top will keep it dry. The most important thing is that we have bought 10 thousand bags, so the farmers can put the wheat in and easily store or move them."
Dun Xunhua, farmer of Xiushui town, said, "It's safe, and it keeps the rain away. My whole family can live inside, and our food won't turn bad. The barn is good and helpful."
So far about 90 percent of the wheat in quake-hit area have been harvested. The next big task is to transplant rice seedlings. These days, troops from Sichuan Provincial Military Command have been busy helping farmers in more than 80 villages in Mianzhu. Most of the helpers are from Sichuan who say it's their duty to help the locals rebuild their homes.
