At 9 AM on May 27, 2008, Fan Baojun, president of the China Charity Federation (CCF) announced through China.org.cn that as of 5 PM yesterday, CCF has received disaster relief worth 902 million yuan (US$129m), comprising 756 million yuan (US$108m) in cash and goods worth 146 million yuan (US$21m).
In particular, there have been donations of 81.36 million yuan (US$11.62m) from Jiangsu Shagang Group Co Ltd, and 60 million yuan (US$8.6m) from Dalian-based Wanda Group.
Up to May 25, 45 million yuan (US$6.4m) had been used to purchase tents, food and medicine. The people and organizations of China had provided 137 million yuan (US$19.5m) in goods, 37 million yuan of which had already been distributed to quake-hit areas.
Further details include:
35 million yuan (US$5m) spent on ordering 26,000 tents, 2,400 of which have now been sent to quake-hit zone, the others being in transit or in production. It is estimated that another 7,600 tents will arrive by the end of this month.
4.4 million yuan (US$0.6m) used to purchase instant food and wheelchairs. In addition, in accordance with the requests of donors, CCF has allocated 6 million yuan (US$0.8m) to quake-hit areas as emergency aid.
