Drugs, equipment to quake-hit areas safe

A spokesperson for China's State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) said here Friday that so far, there have been no safety problems involving quality of drugs and medical equipment transported to the earthquake-hit areas.

Yan Jiangying said the relief headquarters in Sichuan Province, which was hit by a 8.0-magnitude earthquake on May 12, have dispatched 27 million bottles or boxes of drugs, 656,624 pieces of medical equipment and 5,046 tons of disinfectors to areas in need.

"All those drugs and equipment are safe," Yan said.

By noontime Thursday, the massive tremor had claimed 69,127 lives, left 17,918 missing and injured another 373,612 people.
