Enterprises in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have donated 6.05 million yuan (880,000 U.S. dollars) for the victims of the July 5 riot in the regional capital Urumqi, according to the region's investment promotion bureau Wednesday.

The donations came from 33 business chambers and agencies in Xinjiang, in northwest China and from other provinces, said an official of the Xinjiang Investment Promotion Bureau.

Xinjiang Tongjia Group, owned by businessmen from eastern China's Zhejiang Province, donated 2 million yuan.

Ge Yongpin, board chairman of the company, said he would increase investment in more sectors in the region as he had confidence in its development.

The riot left 184 dead and 1,680 injured. The regional government said last Friday the families of innocent civilians killed in the riot would receive compensation of 200,000 yuan in addition to a funeral fee of 10,000 yuan and a "comfort benefit" of 10,000 yuan, for each fatality.
