The Hengqin Postdoctoral Workstation, together with the Science and Technology Service Center and four corporate branches of the station, were inaugurated on December 30, 2015. This is China's first free trade area (FTA) post-doctoral workstation, which will serve as a powerful intelligence engine for Hengqin in the future. Many officials, including Liu Jia, party secretary of the Hengqin New Area attended the opening ceremony.

According to reports, in order to vigorously strengthen talent carrier construction and create talent aggregation, Hengqin has been consistently and actively applying for the establishment of a post-doctoral workstation. On October 9, 2015, the application was finally approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the National Postdoctoral Management Committee.

The corporate branches were hosted by Zhuhai Da Hengqin Technology Development Co., Ltd., Zhaobang Smartech, Zhuhai Titans Power Electronics Co., Ltd. and the Guangdong-Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd.

Currently, the local government has worked together with these companies to realize integrated management and market operation. The workstation will take advantage of Hengqin's adjacency to Hong Kong and Macao and following international practices. A postdoctoral work leading group has also been established.

It's expected that in the next three years, Hengqin plans to recruit 10 to 20 postdoctoral individuals every year. A special postdoctoral research fund will be set up to help them. Better service, including helping their spouses find jobs and their children to enter school will also be provided.
