A special performance of the classic drama Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land was staged at the Hong Kong Culture Centre on Friday, attracting a full-house of about 1,700 people.

Mainland actor Huang Lei and actress Yuan Quan lead a cast comprising star actors from National Theatre of China, Hong Kong Repertory Theater, and Taipei Performance Workshop.

The drama is part of the celebration marking the tenth anniversary of Hong Kong's reunification with the Chinese mainland.

In this "united" version, actors perform in Mandarin and Cantonese languages, adding more fun into the classic comedy.

Renowned Hong Kong actress Brigitte Lin (Lin Qingxia), who took up the leading role 15 years ago in a big-screen production of the drama, expressed her congratulations with a basket of flowers.

Secret Love debuted in Taipei in 1986, and then toured the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.

A film based on the drama was shot in 1992, grabbing many international awards including the Silver Bear in Berlin, the Silver Cherry in Tokyo, and the Golden Horse in Taipei.
