From "State of Divinity" to "The Duke of Mount Deer" and "Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre", Zhang Jizhong has been hailed as a master of remakes. His next goal is to update "Journey to the West", the story about a monk and his four disciples's long journey to India against all odds in search of Buddhist scripts.

The role of the monkey king was played by Liu Xiao Ling Tong in the 1980s version. But Zhang said he will break new ground, and the characters in his version will be less divine and more human. His search for actors has begun.

Zhang Jizhong said, "All the roles, major or minor, are on the list. Anyone interested in it is up for audition. I also want to find some new talents from the search."

Legions of roles will be featured in the story. And the actor search will be split into three groups - Monk Tang and his disciples, the demon group and the immortal group.
