Kung Fu superstar Jackie Chan Friday arrived in Chengdu, the earthquake-hit capital city of southwestern China's Sichuan Province, to help the relief effort.
Sichuan-based website newssc.net says that as well as donating food and drinks to the badly-hit city of Deyang, Jackie will visit the injured in some of the other worst affected areas like Mianzhu. He is the first world-famous star to come to the quake-hit areas.
After offering his condolences to the victims, Jackie sang with local people and encouraged them to band together to overcome the disaster.
Jackie Chan came to Chengdu with the People's Insurance Company (Group) of China (PICC). They will help rebuild schools destroyed by the earthquakes.
Before coming to Chengdu, Jackie called together one hundred pop stars from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea to record a sorrow-relief song, "the promise", to ease people's suffering Thursday evening.
Jackie Chan and the foundation, under the name Hong Kong Emperor Group, together donated 10 million yuan to the quake-stricken Sichuan province on Tuesday.
