The biggest art exhibition since the founding of the People's Republic of China is underway at the National Museum of Fine Arts.

The third China-Beijing International Biennale opened, Tuesday. The exhibition focuses on art and the Olympic Games. About 750 pieces from 81 countries and regions are on display. The major exhibition is titled, "Color and the Olympics."

There also are five feature exhibitions from Britain, Norway, Mexico and Mongolia. The fifth is an exhibition of international contemporary carving. Despite the diversity of the artists' backgrounds, all share the same objective - to recreate the spirit of Olympics, to capture the essence of beauty and serenity.

The exhibition is co-organized by the Beijing Municipal government, the China Federation of Literature and Art Circle, the China Artists Association. The Biennale runs until August 24th.
