The 2nd China International Violin Competition will be held from October 28 to November 8, in the coastal city of Qingdao, in eastern China's Shandong Province. The competition is being organized jointly by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the Qingdao city government. The opening ceremony was held at the Lijing Hotel, Qingdao on 27, October.
35 competitors from 12 countries will take part in the competition. More than half have already participated in national and international competitions and the organizers are expecting a high standard of performances.

A jury panel composed of eminent international musicians is adding to the fascination of the festival for music lovers. Maestro and Emeritus President of the Central Conservatory of Music, Wu Zuqiang has been appointed the competition's artistic director, and the renowned violin teacher Lin Yaoji will chair the jury. The other 11 judges include world-famous violinists from America, the UK, Russia, Hungary, Germany, and Japan.
The competition is organized into three separate rounds. Six competitors will make it through the elimination phases to the final.
To make sure music lovers can attend the competition, ticket prices have been kept low, at 30 yuan for the first round, 60 yuan for the second round and 100 yuan for the final.
The Qingdao government organized the first China International Violin Competition in 2005. By organizing the competitions the government hopes to develop an international cultural brand for the city as an "Island of Music". Qingdao means "Green Island" in Chinese.
