One month after leading Chinese director Xie Jin passed away, the Chinese cinematic circle again paid homage to the visionary filmmaker. Friday marked Xie Jin's 85th birthday. A small memorial ceremony was held in Shanghai to remember the director and the rich cinematic legacies he left behind.
Shanghai Film Association staff and students of the Shanghai Film and Television College went to Xie Jin's home on Friday afternoon.
They brought a glass plaque inscribed with autographs and best wishes for Xie by sixty-five Chinese film directors.
They placed the gift on the table of Xie Jin's study. Xie Jin's wife expressed her gratitude to Xie's fellow filmmakers.
The students and film directors say they've promised to celebrate Xie's birthday every year, despite his passing.
The glass plaque will later be displayed at the Xie Jin Film Museum which is now under construction.
Xie Jin died on the early morning of October 18 from a sudden heart attack at the age of 84. Xie Jin was regarded as a legend of Chinese film. During his career of more than 60 years, Xie Jin had made over 30 movies.
