Sharmila Tagore

Indian actress Sharmila Tagore, who started her acting as a child artist in 1959, has been named as the ninth and final member of the Cannes film festival jury.

Tagore is the fourth Indian to sit on the jury after acclaimed author Arundhati Roy and actresses Aishwarya Rai and Nandita Das over the recent years.

This year's festival, beginning May 13, will have the jury headed by star French actress Isabelle Huppert, with three other actresses on the panel -- Asia Argento from Italy, also a director and screenwriter, Shi Qi from China's Taiwan and Robin Wright Penn from the United States.

Tagore's acting career began as a child in Satyajit Ray's "Apu" in 1959. She has won several National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards for her performances.
